Holdem Basic Rules
Introduced to Las Vegas in 1967 by three Texas
gamblers, Texas Holdem is the most admired poker game and
earned a great popularity in online poker India. The game is
simple but the possibility of game variances is quite vast, and
when playing at the higher levels, the game is extraordinarily
complex. It demands thorough study, practice and minute
analysis of game play. This is a community card game with the
maximum of 9 players and a dealer. A game with excessive
players would be no fun to anyone.
Basic Rules of Texas Holdem
For the first time players, the most important thing is
to understand Texas Holdem poker hand ranking. Before going
through poker hand ranking chart, first, understand some basic
rules of the game. For beginners, each player is dealt two
cards called 'Hole Cards'.
Pre-flop & Flop Rounds In the pre-flop round of wager
in the game with betting begins with a small blind, to the left
of the dealer followed by a big blind. These two bets are
compulsory that must be made before seeing the cards. The game
starts interesting when the next 3 cards are dealt face up on
the table; this stage is called the 'Flop'. The aim of the game
is to get the best combination of cards, and each player tries
to create best combination depending on the hole cards. A
player can either check, bet or fold as per the judgement of
cards. Check raise is quite critical in the game. It is
essential move and every seasoned player has a definite
strategy for check raising. Check raise is done to entice
opponents into putting more money. Check raise is also worked
as a part of bluffing tactics. You need to be clear what you
want to accomplish by check-raising.
The Turn Round Another public card is dealt to
initiate yet another round of betting, the players should keep
in mind the possibility of making a good poker hand using their
hole cards and the open cards while placing their bets. The
game is played for high cards, and the best five card
combination to win the pot. There are lots of strategies
involved including big stack strategy, tight-aggressive
strategy, exploitative play and others.
The River A final open card is dealt, which is followed
by the final betting round. All the betting in the Holdem
game proceeds in the clockwise direction. Betting begins from
the player immediately clockwise to the dealer, as in the first
round, or clockwise to the last active member.
The Showdown Showdown is simply showing cards of the
players to evaluate which player has the best combination of
cards. If there is no betting in the last round, the
showdown is simple. The order will remain same - starting left
of the button clockwise to the button. If there is
betting on the last round, things are a bit complex. The last
player to bet generally takes an aggressive action - defined as
either betting or raising - compelled to show his card first.
Then in usual form the showdown proceeds around the table
clockwise from his position regardless where the button is.
If the stakes go too high and all members fold except one, then
the remaining hand wins the pot. That is the beauty of this
game - if you are confident risk taker, you can win the pot
even if you do not have the best hand!
